Post-Convention Roundup
View from the Hill
September 12, 2008
What a week Ellen and I spent at the Republican National Convention! Sure, we were disappointed that Gov. Romney did not get the vice presidential nod, but John McCain has made a great choice in Alaska´s Gov. Sarah Palin. Agree with him on policy or not, this cements Sen. McCain´s status as a canny maverick and bold leader for anyone with eyes to see.
Thank you, Massachusetts Republican State Committee, for having elected me an at-large delegate to this historic meeting in Minneapolis.
Congratulations to Dan Emerson. The Department of Housing and Community Development reports his reappointment to the state seat on the Groton Housing Authority´s Board. This is an unpaid job with deep community significance.
Michael Virostko, Gerard Schell and Patrick Coit attained Eagle honors in Townsend. Not only have they done their families proud, but also they have built firm foundations for their future success.
At last! The former Pepperell covered bridge has been dismantled, and we are on our way to the new one. Did you know that the old bridge´s planking concealed a steel skeleton? The new one is all wood, custom built for Pepperell.
The bill I co-sponsored with Sen. Panagiotakos to include Pepperell within the Ayer Economic Target Area and Economic Opportunity Area (H 4986) has progressed to the Committee for Bills in the Third Reading. The next step is engrossment of the bill in the House, whereupon it goes to the Senate and finally receives the governor´s signature in order to become law. I plan to add an emergency preamble so that the bill will become effective immediately upon signature.
I look forward to attending the William E. May Endowment dinner. It is planned for October 4 at the Townsend Ridge Country Club.
Congratulations to Steve and Nancy Webber on the occasion of their fortieth wedding anniversary!
Note progress at the Peter Twomey Youth Center, where they have opened the new middle school room.
Please have a look at my new Web site and let me know your thoughts about it. Google will lead you to the site, or you can reach it by typing this path: www.repbobhargraves.com.
Finally, I hope you´ll save the evening of Friday, October 24 to attend the Hargraves Hoedown at Pepperell´s VFW Hall.
